Kathryn Cason
EXPERIENCE
SUMMARY
A Senior Executive with a proven track record in organizational
development and improvement.
DETAILED EXPERIENCE
Kathryn Cason, 25-year research colleague of Elliott Jaques, co-authored
Human Capability, A Study of Individual Potential and its Application,
1994. Human Capability is the seminal research into the nature of the
complexity of the internal processes and complexity of the information
used by the adult population in carrying out goal-directed activities.
This research validated the constructs of a hierarchy of Orders of
Complexity of Information and of the recursive four internal processes
operating within the maturation of individuals to handle increasingly more
complex problems. Of special interest was the finding that managers,
managers-once-removed, and individual subordinates can all agree on the
level of work that the subordinate is capable of effectively handling,
when provided clear concepts with which to articulate their judgments—the
Complexity of Information Processing (CIP). This appears to be intuitively
observable by all adults who are engaged in listening to each other during
problem solving sessions.
This study set the foundation for Jaques’ Life and Behavior of Living
Organisms, 2002.
Cason continues to test and clarify these findings in relation to new
formulations for the:
 |
effect of future potential (Mode) upon the expression
of current actual capability; |
 |
role of personal values and interests in actual
capability for specific work roles; |
 |
nature of information complexity in childhood, ages
5-18; |
 |
required policy development and infrastructure for US
Healthcare delivery systems for 2012 and beyond; |
 |
nature of the impact of Corporate Governance on
ethical behavior – a study of boundaries that create trustworthy
systems for conducting commerce and government, investments and the
employment of citizens. |
Ms Cason was recently interviewed for articles in Business Week, LA
Times, Boston Globe and The New Yorker. Other publications include
articles for National Association of Corporate Directors, Canadian
